Alana

Occupational Therapist / Director

About Alana

Alana Muir is the “senior” Occupational Therapist at Gold Coast Kids Therapy. Alana has a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (OT) from the University of Queensland. She has over 15 years experience working as a children’s OT, is a member of OT Australia, and holds current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). She has worked in various locations in Queensland, within not-for-profit, government, research, hospital, and community health organisations.  She has attended numerous training over the years in a broad range of areas including upper limb therapy, feeding, handwriting, interventions for people with FASD, and interventions for people with CP.

Alana has a special interest in working with infants with a range of challenges; and working with children (and their families) who have motor difficulties that impact on their participation in the activities they want to do, need to do or are expected to do.

These activities may include:

  • Using their hands for play, manipulating small objects, or using tools such as pencil or scissors; and/or
  • Participating in self-care activities such as feeding, toileting, and dressing; and/or
  • Participating in activities in the community.

The difficulties experienced may be related to developmental delays or a specific diagnosis such as:

  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder
  • Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
  • Developmental Co-ordination Disorder
  • Acquired Brain Injury
  • Down Syndrome
  • Global Developmental Delay

Megan

Occupational Therapist

About Megan

Megan joined the Gold Coast Kids Therapy Team in January 2022. Megan has a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from Southern Cross University. She enjoys working with children and families to help them achieve the best possible outcomes. Megan has current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), is a member of Occupational Therapy Australia and has a current NDIS Worker Screening check. Megan has experience working with children including toddlers, and school age children, in clinic and school environments. Megan is passionate about continually building her skills and ensuring she can provide the best service and therapy for your family.

Sophie

Occupational Therapist

About Sophie

Sophie joined the Gold Coast Kids Therapy Team in January 2022. Sophie has a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) from Griffith University. She has current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and is a member of Occupational Therapy Australia. Sophie is committed to delivering occupational therapy services that are effective; through drawing from theory, providing supporting evidence, and valuing client-centred practice. Sophie is passionate about helping children embrace their uniqueness and identify their strengths as a means to reach their occupational potential, and thus live a meaningful life.

About Ellen

Ellen is currently on Maternity Leave (September 2023). Ellen has a Masters in Speech Pathology from Griffith University. She is a Certified Practicing Member of Speech Pathology Australia. Ellen has a passion for working with young children with communication, feeding and/or literacy difficulties, and has experience working in home, clinic and community settings.

Children with difficulties speaking, listening, following directions, using language to socialise, or with feeding, may benefit from seeing a Speech Pathologist.

Ellen provides Speech Pathology services to children under 7 years age, with speech and language, and/or feeding difficulties due to developmental delays or a specific diagnosis including Speech and Language Impairment, Language Disorder, Global Developmental Delay, Hearing Impairment, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), Cerebral Palsy (CP), and chromosomal abnormalities.

Adam

Physiotherapist

About Adam

Adam has moved to Australia from the UK and starts with our team in October 2023. Adam has a Bachelor of Science (Physiotherapy – First Class Degree with Honours) from Brunel University, London. Adam has experience working with children aged 5 days old through to 19 years of age in clinic, hospital, home, and daycare settings. Adam is experienced in both land and water-based physiotherapy. He has worked with many amazing children with a range of diagnoses including Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Charcot-Marie-Tooth, Global Development Delay and Autism. He has supported children who had torticollis, tow walking and other motor delays. 

Adam is passionate about providing meaningful, child and family-centered support. In Adam’s words: “I love working with children as my day is filled with therapy through play and every day is different. I enjoy helping children to learn, refine and expand their gross motor skills. Working collaboratively with parents and carers is a vital part of my job and listening, empathising and respecting parents is crucial to understanding what is important to them.”

 

Clinical Support Team

Lisa

Administration & Clinical Support Officer

Lisa started with Gold Coast Kids Therapy as a part-time casual administration officer in 2021, and from late 2022 is now our permanent full-time Administration & Clinical Support Officer. Lisa has a certification in health administration, and is trained as an education support worker, and remedial massage therapist. Lisa is a mum to her teenage daughter. She loves being the first person to greet all people who come through the doors of Gold Coast Kids Therapy. She has a caring nature and strives to make everyone feel welcome, hoping to put smiles on faces even in the toughest of circumstances.
